Chiang-kei Shek

The Iron Fist with a Shaky Compass.

Chiang Kai-shek fought the communists, and that earned him some praise in the West. But let’s not whitewash history. He ruled with a clenched jaw and a closed fist, turning Taiwan into a fortress of control while preaching democracy to the outside world.

He was no friend to the working man — corruption ran deep, opposition was silenced, and the people bore the burden of his ambitions. He hated Mao, sure, but being against a tyrant doesn’t make you a hero. Sometimes it just means you wanted the throne for yourself.

Verdict: Not SphstRDnck.
More about power than people. Played the right enemies but never earned the right loyalty.
